More Than a White Coat: Investing in Puerto Rico's Future Healthcare Professionals

White Coat Ceremony with Dr. García Rinaldi Foundation, Puerto Rico
Every healthcare professional remembers a first. The first anatomy class. The first patient interaction. The first time hearing a heartbeat through a stethoscope. For many students, one of the most meaningful milestones comes during the White Coat Ceremony, a tradition that symbolizes the beginning of their journey into healthcare. Standing before family, mentors, and classmates, students put on the white coat for the first time and commit themselves to a future of service, compassion, and lifelong learning. That commitment to caring for others is at the heart of the work being done by the Dr. Raúl García Rinaldi Foundation.
Crafting Wellness with Dr. García Rinaldi Foundation
MDF® has partnered with the Dr. García Rinaldi Foundation to provide stethoscopes to universities across Puerto Rico so that healthcare students can receive a new MDF® stethoscope during their White Coat Ceremonies. Together, we celebrate one of the most meaningful moments in a student's journey, the moment they begin transforming a dream into a profession.

CARING FOR PUERTO RICO
Founded by renowned cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Raúl García Rinaldi, the Foundation is dedicated to improving health outcomes throughout Puerto Rico through patient assistance, community health initiatives, education, and prevention programs. Their work spans both immediate healthcare needs and long-term investments in healthier communities.
One example is the Foundation's PPER Program (Promotion, Prevention, Evaluation, and Results), which focuses on cardiovascular health education and early detection among older adults. Through nutrition education, physical activity programs, and health screenings for risk factors such as cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure, the Foundation helps individuals take proactive steps toward better health. In partnership with the Edwards Foundation's "Cada Latido Cuenta" initiative, the program has already exceeded participation goals in Puerto Rico's eastern region.
Beyond community outreach, the Foundation also believes that strengthening healthcare means supporting the people who will one day provide it. At MDF Instruments® we share that belief.

Empowering Future Healthcare Professionals
A stethoscope is more than a medical instrument. It becomes a companion through years of lectures, clinical rotations, exams, and first patient encounters. It represents a commitment to listen carefully, learn continuously, and serve compassionately.
For many students, the stethoscope they receive during their White Coat Ceremony will accompany them throughout their education and into the careers they are working so hard to achieve.
Every year, as new classes of healthcare students across the island put on their white coats, we are reminded that wellness is not only about the care delivered today. It is also about investing in the people who will provide that care tomorrow.

Wellness as a Commitment, Not a Campaign
Our Crafting Wellness initiative is a core expression of what we believe: that health is a fundamental right, that the people and animals who need care most are often the ones hardest to reach, and that a company with resources has a responsibility to use them. Across more than 807 missions in 73+ countries, MDF has donated over 45,000 instruments to organizations working on the front lines of global health.
