When some think about school nurses, they picture scraped knees, ice packs and bandages. The reality is much different.
School nurses respond to medical emergencies, manage chronic health conditions, administer medications, monitor immunization compliance, provide health education and care for students experiencing everything from asthma attacks and diabetic emergencies to injuries, illness, anxiety and dehydration.
Behind every healthy school day is a school nurse working quietly to keep students safe, healthy and ready to learn.
Crafting Wellness with Nampa High School
When Mercedes, RN, BSN, joined Nampa High School as a school nurse, she was eager to create a welcoming, well-equipped health office for the students she serves.
As Mercedes prioritized the needs of her health office, she realized reliable manual blood pressure cuffs were among the important items still needed. She reached out to MDF Instruments with a simple question: would it be possible to donate one adult and one large adult manual blood pressure cuff?
That simple request opened the door to something much bigger.
As conversations continued, Mercedes learned that other school nurses throughout the district had similar equipment needs. 14 dedicated school nurses care for students from elementary through high school, each serving the unique needs of their school community. What began as a request for one health office quickly became an opportunity to support many more.

Equipping School Nurses to Care with Confidence
Through MDF Instruments' Crafting Wellness initiative, we were honored to donate pediatric blood pressure cuffs, adult blood pressure cuffs, large adult blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes for school nurses throughout the district.
These updated diagnostic tools will help equip school nurses with dependable equipment they can rely on every day. When the donation arrived, Mercedes shared a message that perfectly captured the impact of this partnership:
"Thank you so much for including stethoscopes in the donation. That was above and beyond what I was expecting. Everyone will appreciate that each school will have updated supplies!"
Sometimes, meaningful change begins with one person recognizing a need and asking how they can better serve the people who depend on them.
