Answering the Call
When an emergency happens, quality care starts long before a patient reaches the hospital. It begins with the first responders who arrive on scene, equipped with the training, experience, and tools to assess what’s happening and determine what comes next.
For communities across southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, that care is provided by Wakefield EMS, a nonprofit emergency medical service dedicated to putting its community first.
Crafting Wellness with Wakefield EMS
Behind every call is a commitment to more than simply responding to an emergency. Wakefield EMS places compassion, professionalism, clinical excellence, integrity, teamwork, education, safety, and service at the center of its work.
Serving Southern Lancaster County
Wakefield Ambulance Association provides Basic Life Support emergency medical services to Fulton, Little Britain, Drumore, and East Drumore townships. Its team of paid and volunteer professionals responds to thousands of emergency calls each year, serving local residents and visitors while also supporting neighboring communities in York and Chester Counties through mutual aid responses.
More than 50 EMTs, paramedics, nurses, and volunteer providers contribute to that mission, working together to deliver high quality care when their communities need it most.
Ready for Every Patient
In emergency medicine, every call is different, and so is every patient. A first responder may be assessing an older adult experiencing difficulty breathing on one call and caring for a young child on the next. Having equipment designed for different patient populations can help providers perform more accurate cardiac and pulmonary assessments and make informed clinical decisions when time matters.
To support Wakefield EMS in that work, MDF Instruments provided the organization with neonatal, pediatric and adult stethoscopes. The stethoscopes will be kept aboard Wakefield EMS apparatus, making them readily available to providers during emergency responses and helping ensure crews have appropriately sized diagnostic equipment for patients ranging from newborns to older adults.
Strengthening Pediatric Readiness
Pediatric emergency care requires specialized knowledge, preparation, and equipment appropriate for younger patients. By expanding the pediatric tools available to its providers, Wakefield EMS is continuing its commitment to being prepared for some of the community's smallest, and often most vulnerable patients.
At the same time, the addition of adult stethoscopes strengthens assessment capabilities across the broader patient population, supporting cardiac and pulmonary evaluations and timely clinical decision making during medical emergencies.
Investing in the People Who Answer the Call
Strong emergency medical services depend on more than equipment. They depend on people. Wakefield EMS places a continued emphasis on professional training, workforce and volunteer development, organizational excellence, and service to the community. By investing in the people behind each response, the organization is helping build an EMS system prepared not only for today's emergencies, but for the needs of its community in the years ahead.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Wakefield EMS also relies on partnerships and community support to help provide its teams with the resources they need to deliver compassionate, evidence-based emergency medical care.

Our Crafting Wellness initiative is a core expression of what we believe: that health is a fundamental right, that the people and animals who need care most are often the ones hardest to reach, and that a company with resources has a responsibility to use them. Across more than 807 missions in 73+ countries, MDF has donated over 45,000 instruments to organizations working on the front lines of global health.
